Wilson Throws Fourth Consecutive Complete Game

For the fourth time in his last four starts, Garrett Wilson threw a complete game for the Dons. This time he accomplished the feat in a 9-3 win over Cypress College that extended the Dons winning streak to six games.

Cypress (19-12, 6-10) got to Wilson in the first inning with one run on two hits to take an early 1-0 lead. That one run, however, was unearned as Pierce Bily reached on an error before eventually scoring.

The Dons (24-7, 11-5) offense picked up its pitcher in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. Dylan Jones led the frame off with a triple before eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Kuck.

But it was in the third inning when the Dons gave Wilson all the runs he would need. The Dons took a 4-1 lead in the inning aided by a pair of Chargers errors. Andy Peterson drove in Trevor Magno before Jones singled in Geoff Schuller. Peterson came around to score the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

After Cypress scored a run in the fifth inning to cut the Dons lead to 4-2, the Dons came back with two more runs to extend their lead to 6-2. Peterson doubled in Magno for the first run before scoring on a RBI-groundout by Armijo.

The Dons capped their scoring in the sixth inning with three more unearned runs as Cypress committed a two-out error sparking the rally. Tyler Madrid drew a bases loaded walk to score Magno before Jones singled in Schuller and Peterson for the Dons final runs.

Cypress would add one more run in the seventh inning before Wilson shut them out for the final two innings, notching his fourth complete game of the season. Wilson's final line was three runs, two earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts over nine innings.

Josh Anderson (4-2) suffered the loss for Cypress after allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits in 2.1 innings pitched. The two teams will meet on Tuesday, April 17 in the rubber match of the series.
