Offense Bounces Back in 12-3 Win over Fullerton

A game after being held to three runs on five hits, the Dons bats came alive in their 12-3 win over Fullerton College. Nine of the Dons 12 runs were earned as they pounded out 15 hits in the win.

Even with getting 15 hits, it took the Dons (12-3, 1-1) five batters before their first hit of the game, due in large part to a hit batter and a pair of walks issued by Fullerton (5-9-1, 0-2). Brandon Baxter got the first hit of the game with a bases loaded bunt-single that scored JB Bryant for the Dons first run.

Konnor Armijo put the Dons up 2-0 later in the first when he scored on Geoff Schuller's bases loaded walk. The Dons finished the inning with just one hit while drawing three walks.

Trevor Magno started a four hit second inning with a lead off single before Blake Walker also hit a single. After a sacrifice bunt by Bryant, Tyler Madrid hit a sacrifice fly to score Magno that put the Dons up 3-0.

Armijo then hit a RBI-double that scored Walker before Dylan Jones hit a RBI-single that scored Armijo, giving the Dons a 5-0 lead.

Fullerton cut into the Dons lead in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. The Hornets first run was scored on a wild pitch before Tommy Endres hit a RBI-double that made the score 5-2.

The Dons answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Walker drew a lead off walk, advanced to second on wild pitch and third on a ground out before eventually scoring on a wild pitch.

Dylan Jones led the seventh inning off with a double before stealing third base. He then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Baxter to put the Dons up 7-2.

The Dons added five more runs in the eighth inning aided by a Hornets error. Bryant singled in Magno before Armijo plated Walker with a single. Kyle Kuck followed later in the inning with a pinch hit, sacrifice fly that scored Bryant before Schuller singled in Madrid. Adrian Garcia capped the scoring off with a RBI-single that scored Armijo.

Christian Uchytil (1-0) picked up his first win of the season in relief of Bryan Clough. Uchytil held Fullerton scoreless over four innings on just three hits while striking out five batters.

Clough didn't factor into the decision after leaving the game in the fourth inning. He finished his outing with two runs on six hits over three innings. Dylan Cole (0-2) suffered the loss for Fullerton after allowing six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
